  • In our pānui for Āpereira find out what’s happening during the April school holidays. While educators are relaxing, we’ll be busy behind the scenes!

    Upcoming site refresh

Wow! Twenty years ago, we launched an online resource to tell the stories of Aotearoa New Zealand science! The Biotech Learning Hub and its sister site, the Science Learning Hub, were ground-breaking in their technical formats and pedagogical focus. We’ve evolved over the years to become the Science Learning Hub Pokapū Akoranga Pūtaiao – reflecting changes in the education and science sectors.

Along the way, there have been technological tweaks to ensure our site stays up-to-date and responsive to the needs of our audience. There’s a site refresh about to happen. We’re implementing it during the school holidays to minimise impacts on our users, but some disruption is inevitable.

We’re implementing a number of changes to the site – making it more robust and user-friendly.

    What this means for you

    A short delay

Unfortunately our big release has been delayed a little. Watch this space for more information coming soon!

From Monday 14 April, we will freeze all of the sign-in functionalities on our site. Over two days, we will migrate the thousands of users, and their collections and favourites, to a new and more secure admin location. During this time, you will not be able to sign in or have access to your collections or favourites, though the rest of the website and resources will still be accessible.

On Wednesday 16 April, the refreshed site will be live! The site might be a bit slow to begin with, so please be patient.

    What you can do now

As mentioned in our last newsletter, there are some things you can do now. Please update your email address now if it is not the one you currently use – for example, if you have changed your job/school – otherwise, you will not get the verification email for the new login. Your sign in email is connected to your existing collections and favourites. Update your email by signing in and then clicking on the Profile button at the top of the webpage and then select My details.

What you will need to do

One important change for users who are already registered – once we go live on 16 April, you will need to reset your password (or use one of the other Sign in features) to access your collections and favourites.

To access your existing collections and favourites, make sure you use the same email address. If you are a new user you will need to register first.

Our sign in page has multiple options for you to sign in.

New users will need to register by selecting the ‘Register here’ link on this page.

If you have any questions or need help, please get in touch.

    What’s new?

A lot of our refresh centres on accessibility – cleaner, less cluttered pages that are easier to read. We’ve placed the buttons in a single location, which remain available for use as you scroll down the page. And we’ve made it easier to search our ample selection of resources.

Small changes for ease of use

The 2025 refresh includes tweaks to functionality – small changes that make it easier to use the site.

We would like to thank the team at Haunt Digital – the tech wizards behind our website – for their ongoing work to keep the Hub innovative, intuitive and user-friendly!
