As the holiday season nears, we have lots of new resources on the go for 2022. There’s something for everyone – te reo Māori, primary and secondary.
Farewelling 2021 – and a peek at things to come
As 2021 draws to a close, our thanks go out to the educators in Aotearoa and abroad for supporting ākonga with their science learning.
This has been another challenging year and once again we’ve seen the value of science communication. We are heartened to see The Guardian report that New Zealand and Australia have the world’s highest levels of trust in scientists. Your efforts to enhance science literacy play a key role in this!
Welcoming 2022 with new content and functionality
We have just released new functionality – the addition of the Google Classroom icon. It appears at the bottom of each resource (including this newsletter) and is super easy to use – just select the Google Classroom icon and the resource will be placed into your Google Classroom account! We have been having a play and we think this is a pretty exciting new feature! We hope you like it too!
We also have lots of new content in the pipeline:
- Ngā rākau – articles and media in te reo Māori and English, with a focus on native plants. Topics include ruinga kākano (seed dispersal), rākau koroī (gymnosperm), tipu whaipua (angiosperm), ahotakakame (photosynthesis) and pūnaha whakarōpū (classification).
- Smart Water – activities and media with a focus on wai (water) – where it comes from, the treatment process to make it safe to drink, how we use it, and how we can look after this precious taonga.
- Extremophiles – media-rich senior biology resources with a focus on enzymes, DNA repair and replication, and research on the use of extremophiles in new biotechnology tools and processes.
- Dairy, science and sustainability – Lincoln University resources for year 11 students with a focus on the science and management practices carried out on dairy farms.
