    If you look closely at this image, you can see how the intensity of the lantern’s shadow1 varies. Some parts of the shadow are darker and more distinct than others. Opaque2 objects (the metal3 parts of the lantern) form definite shadows4. Translucent5 objects (the glass panes) form fuzzy shadows.
