  • We don’t just develop new content, run PLD sessions and support teachers etc... We also work away behind the scenes to see how we can keep improving the Science Learning Hub website and present and curate content for our users. Our team works with Haunt Digital to ensure our site is kept up to date and responding to the needs of New Zealand educators. Today we are so excited to announce a suite of changes and enhancements to the website.

We love getting feedback from our users, whether it’s the survey, Feedback tool, social media or our Enquiries email. One of the things that was asked for was a science glossary.

Today we made our 2,500 glossary terms easily accessible and usable. There is a new Glossary section and you can access all the glossary terms related to a resource using the new Glossary tab. You can download or add to a collection one or more glossary terms. Want to find out more on making the most of the fabulous new functionality in your teaching – see our article Using our glossary.

Included in the release were some design tweaks aiming to give a bit of a fresh feel to the site and also make our headings, filter tabs and menus stand out more.

The Related topics and concepts are now more visible and easy to access. Instead of the old explore button, we now have a new Related topics & concepts tab, just under our topics, concepts, article and activity resource titles. Select to see the key concept and topics related to this resource. Remember you can also click on one to go directly to that topic or concept. For article and activity resources the tab is next to that resource’s Glossary tab. For more on using topics and concepts in your teaching see Science topics and science concepts.

Another improvement is a new menu option on our resource thumbnail images on landing pages, such as search results, a topic or a concept page, the Citizen science section or the Teacher PLD section. When you hover over a resource’s thumbnail a new vertical 3-dot menu will display – giving you the choice for this resource to either directly favourite or add to a collection. If adding to a collection, just use the back arrow to go back to your search/landing page.

We’d love to hear what you think of these changes or anything else you’d like to see, use one of our feedback tools or contact us.
