In this free talk join Emeritus Professor Stephen Warren (University of Washington) to uncover the mystery of green icebergs in East Antarctica.

These rare icebergs, found near the Amery Ice Shelf, are crucial to marine life because as they melt, they release iron that nourishes plankton – the foundation of the ocean food chain.

For years, scientists puzzled over their green colour, with early theories suggesting dissolved organic carbon. But new research shows it's iron in the ice that gives them their hue. Professor Warren, a leading expert in polar research, will share his fascinating insights into how these icebergs influence the environment and climate.

Location: Tūhura Otago Museum, Barclay Theatre, 419 Great King Street, Dunedin. 5:30pm start.
